I just found a reference to a vacuum measurement as "5 Microns" Can this be right? if so, how many inches of Mercury is that?
Thank you.

Thank you.

When referring to microns as a unit of measurement for vacuum, the reference is to microns of mercury in the same way as you would refer to atmospheric pressure in inches of mercury on a barometer. One inch Hg is about 25,000 microns.

5 microns would be 5/25000ths, or 1/5000th of an inch of Mercury.

To help clarify the terminology, remember that the deeper the vacuum, the more complete the vacuum; and the more complete the vacuum, the lower the number of microns.

VACUUM - MICRONS

Postby KEN KLOTZ » Mon Aug 29, 2005 1:04 am

I see when an a/c vacuum pump is rated in microns, and I need a pump to lower the vacuum to 29 inches to pop air bubbles, will a 40 micron pump do the trick.
Thanks
Ken
