Sorry, I don't know what a "unit" of electrical power is.

In the US (and many other places), it is commonly sold by the kilowatt-hour, which is one kilowatt for an hour. Since 1000 W = 1 kW, your example is 1 kWh.

I guess some places sell it by the joule (probably megajoule or gigajoule, since the joule is a small unit). 1 hour = 3600 s, so 1000 W x 3600 s = 3.6 MJ

It will always be power x time, but a conversion factor may be needed depending on how your utility defines a "unit."
